MESSAGE OF CARING
- Cook healthy lunches for our Safe Haven
Our lunch-time cooks make a huge difference in the day-to-day operation of our Safe Haven and allow us to
provide healthy and delicious food options for women. We have both individuals and groups that prepare a luncheon entrée, side
dish, and dessert that will serve approximately 12-15 women. The food is prepared at people’s homes and delivered to On The Rise.
You can sign-up for a regular day each month or for random days that fit best with your schedule.
Community Cooks is a group of Boston area residents joined together by a shared desire to help our
less fortunate neighbors, and has provided meals to non-profit agencies, including On The Rise. If you are
interested in providing meals through Community Cooks or to learn more, visit their website at www.communitycooks.org or email communitycooks@gmail.com.
- Support our Wellness Program
Volunteer your services or special skills to keep our Wellness Program going strong. We offer informal classes in such areas as painting and writing as well as health maintenance services such as massage and beauty treatments.
Whatever your special skill, donating your time will enhance the health and wellbeing of women in crisis and allows them the break they need to focus on themselves and their interests.
Sign-up by yourself or with friends to join us on one of our volunteer days. Sort through donations, clean up the grounds, do a creative project to beautify our facility or help prepare for special events.
Volunteer Saturdays are held on the first Saturday of each month (excluding holidays) between 10am – 2pm.
- Organize a Make-It-Home Team
Through our Make-It-Home program, a volunteer signs up to conduct a drive at her company, religious center, neighborhood or organization to collect new and gently used items that are on the personal wish list of a woman at On The Rise who has recently
secured housing. We send a short bio about the woman and her wish list. Each year, On The Rise helps 30-40 homeless women secure housing of their own. This transition brings new challenges and responsibilities for her. With support from our community, we help
each woman get settled by collecting the items that she needs to make her new house feel like home.
Save new and unused travel sized toiletries from you travels and deliver them to On The Rise. This is a year- round need that greatly helps women who require these amenities day to day.
